Child Employment

Child Employment Licences

If you are a Haringey employer and are thinking about employing a young person between 13 and 16 years of age you must apply for a child employment licence. Please note that it is illegal to employ anyone under the age of 13 years. Employing a young person without a licence may lead to prosecution in accordance with Children and Young Persons Act 1933, Children and Young Persons Act 1963 (as amended) and Haringey Council Bye-Laws in respect to Child Employment.

It is the employer's responsibility to register the young person with the local education authority, telling them where the young person works.

An application form will require the parent's signature and declaration of their child's fitness to work. They cannot work without their parents knowledge and consent.

This also applies to parents employing their own children in the family business.
