Finsbury Park has a volunteer group called Friends of Finsbury Park made up of residents and volunteers who care deeply about the park.

Love Finsbury Park

3 London boroughs meet in Finsbury Park – Haringey, Islington and Hackney.

We're working with Islington and Hackney councils to make Finsbury Park, and the surrounding area, safer and more welcoming.  Find out how we're doing this on the Love Finsbury Park page. 

Green Flag Award 

First awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award in 2007, the park has kept it ever since.

History

Finsbury Park opened in 1869 and was originally designed and laid out by Alexander McKenzie.

Investment in the park 

From the 1970s, not much money was spent on the park. This left it in a run-down state and attracted anti-social and criminal behaviour.  

A Heritage Lottery Fund Grant, and match funding from other sources, saw £4.9 million spent on it between 2001 and 2006.  

Public events 

Since it first opened in 1869, public events have taken place at Finsbury Park. In recent years it’s seen many international music acts playing to large audiences.
