Treatment process

Treatment is carried out by one of our pest control officers. 

The treatment we use is professional-grade poison.

We make 3 visits to check on progress and lay down new poison. 

We will visit your home and: 

• discuss the treatment with you 
• put down bait 
• give advice on how to stop rats from infesting your home 

Treatment can be carried out: 

• under floors (if access is given) 
• in the kitchen 
• in lofts (if access is given and safe to do so) 
• in the garden 

Signs of a rat problem 

If you think you might have a rat problem, look out for these signs: 

• scratching noises in the walls or ceilings  
• seeing dark droppings about 10 to 14 millimetres long, thinner at one end
• smelling an ammonia-like smell, particularly strong in areas such as under cupboards 
• finding damage where rats have chewed on wood, plastic and cables  
• finding nests with shredded material such as newspaper or fabric, often hidden behind a fridge or under garden decking 
• finding ripped food packaging which may show signs of teeth marks  
• seeing burrows, especially in compost heaps or under sheds  

Damage from rats

• chewing wooden fittings, lead pipes and electrical cables 
• undermining property foundations and causing damage to drainage systems
