Clear Sack Collections
Please note: from Monday 3 April 2017 Veolia will no longer be delivering sacks to residents living in flats above shops. Residents will now have to visit their local library with proof of address to obtain a roll of green recycling sacks (there will no longer be a supply of pink general waste sacks).
Doorstep recycling collections have been introduced for residents living in flats above shops, and other locations where other types of recycling service cannot be provided.
The collections use clear sacks, which are provided to residents for free. A wide range of materials can be put into the same sack for recycling, and the clear sacks will be picked up at the same times and locations as existing rubbish sacks.

The collection arrangements for the recycling are normally the same as for rubbish. This means that you can put your clear recycling sacks out at the same time and location as the black bags you use for rubbish.
However, there are some locations where different arrangements are in place, so please see the special locations section below.
If you live on a main road where there are timed collection arrangements in place for rubbish then please make sure you also comply with these for the clear recycling sacks.
If you do not know when to put your rubbish and recycling out, please contact the Veolia Haringey Contact Centre:
Tel: 020 8885 7700
There are some locations where the clear sack collection arrangements are different from those for the rubbish collections.
This is likely to affect the following types of property:
- Blocks of flats which do have rubbish bins (but where there is no space for a recycling bin)
- Properties on a mews
- Gated developments (where other recycling services cannot be provided)
The recycling collection arrangements will be quite specific to each location, so please contact the Veolia Haringey Contact Centre for information about where you live:
Tel: 020 8885 7700
The rubbish and recycling will be collected in the same vehicle, which has two separate compartments.
The recycling is put into one compartment, which is emptied at a materials recovery facility so that the different materials can be sorted out from one another. For more information on this process, please visit the Mixed-Material Recycling section of our What happens to recycling? pages.
The other compartment on the vehicle is used to collect the rubbish. This compartment is emptied when the vehicle arrives at the energy-from-waste plant in Edmonton, or alternatively at one of the other transfer stations in North London (from where it will be taken to landfill).
The clear sacks can be used to recycle:
- Drinks cartons (rinsed)
- Plastic bottles, tubs, pots and trays (rinsed)
- Tins and cans (rinsed)
- Glass bottles and jars (rinsed, with lids removed)
Please do not put any sharp objects or broken glass in your clear sacks. Broken jars and bottles can be recycled using local .
For a more detailed list of what can be recycled, please visit the what to recycle in the clear sacks page.
The council will deliver a new pack of clear sacks to you four times a year (roughly every 3 months). However, if you are running out of sacks then please contact the Veolia Haringey Contact Centre to order some more:
Your clear sacks should be delivered within 10 working days and are provided to residents free of charge.
Please do not give your clear recycling sacks to anyone else.
If you have any questions about recycling then please contact the Veolia Haringey Contact Centre:
