Pension Credit can be a lifeline people for people of state pension age on low incomes, providing them with much needed extra support for living costs.

Haringey Council is already taking action to encourage residents to apply for Pension Credit through it’s Here to Help campaign.

We are pleased to support this initiative, which is being delivered by partners Policy in Practice and the Greater London Authority who will be sending out direct mail to those who are eligible. This will aim to unlock £1.4m for older residents who are most in need.

Cllr Seema Chandwani, Cabinet Member for Resident Services and Tackling Inequality said:

"It’s crucial that our older residents don’t miss out on this important opportunity to boost their income. We urge all residents who have received a letter prompting them to apply for Pension Credit to take action.

"We’ve already secured £1.9m for older Haringey residents as the result of a similar initiative last year, boosting the income of nearly 370 households and unlocking £0.6million of additional support too."

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said:

“Many pensioners are unaware of the support they have available to them, which is why we have been working closely with councils across the capital to help secure millions of pounds for older Londoners feeling the effects of the cost-of-living crisis.

"I’m proud of the difference this campaign has already made and will continue to do all I can to provide support as we build a better London for everyone.”
