Celebrating Haringey's inspirational women

6 women talking and laughing

Women’s History Month has begun today (Friday 1 March 2024) and we have an exciting programme of activities and events taking place in Haringey throughout the next 31 days to celebrate this annual, global awareness occasion.

Taking place in March each year, Women’s History Month provides a chance for us all to focus on – and learn about – the fascinating stories of women past and present, as well as shine a light on the ongoing struggle for gender equality and the important issues facing women today.

Highlights of our 2024 programme include:

  • The opening of the new ‘Land of Laundries’ exhibition at Bruce Castle Museum, where sculptor Al Johnson will explore the symbolism of laundry and the often overlooked stories and voices of women and their work
  • A day-long event to promote women’s health, with workshops, talks and stalls at Tottenham Town Hall
  • A walking tour of Muswell Hill, taking in the hidden history of the area, from suffragettes to the feminist punk band The Slits
  • A seed festival at Wolves Lane, celebrating women’s historic role as the protector of seeds and agricultural heritage
  • An afternoon of feminist craft, storytelling and Afro-Latin music by renowned group Las Witchas! at Bruce Castle Museum
