Community events bring local artists to the festival stage
Local musicians had a unique opportunity to appear on a festival stage this week, as two community events took place in Finsbury Park.
Tuesday saw the first ever edition of Finsbury Fest, which featured local bands and musicians from Haringey, Hackney, Islington and Camden. Residents who braved the rain were treated to a wide range of music including experimental electronic sounds from Jasmine Kahlia, feminist soul from Kate Bond and a distinctive blend of jazz, blues and rock from The Bakelites.
We were back in the park on Wednesday for Finsbury Park’s School Summer Festival, which brought together young musicians from Haringey and Islington, including a symphony orchestra, big band, wind band, rock bands and the Haringey VOX choir.
Both events were sponsored by event promoter Festival Republic, and took place on the stage which will host major acts as part of this weekend’s Wireless Festival.
Well done to everyone who participated in these events – a great example of the benefits that the Finsbury Park major events programme brings to the borough.
