Festive fun in Haringey this weekend
Christmas will be coming to Haringey this Saturday (3RD December) with a host of events to get people in the festive mood and celebrate Small Business Saturday.
Small Business Saturday encourages people to shop locally and to support traders in the borough, Haringey has announced it will be free to park in council-run town centre car parks and pay and display bays on the day.
Events taking place across Haringey this weekend include a charity Santa Dash in Muswell Hill, followed by the Very Merry Muswell event with Father Christmas and tree lighting; the Crouch End Craft Market; the Tottenham Winter Festival (all Saturday) and the Myddleton Road Winter Festival including a Santa’s grotto and fun fair rides on Sunday 4th December. Top Spurs players Harry Kane and Josh Onomah have got behind the Tottenham Winter Festival with a special festive video.
There will also be a big festive celebration on Wood Green High Street between 12pm and 4pm on Saturday including the Christmas tree light switch at 3pm – the tree this year has been sponsored by leading property developer, St William. There will also be a choir, live music and DJs, salsa dancing and a Christmas Market on the corner of Lymington Avenue.
Haringey Council Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Sustainability and Social Inclusion, Cllr Joe Goldberg said: “We are calling on residents to support businesses in their neighbourhoods by shopping locally this weekend. Haringey has a fantastic range of stores and businesses to offer and we’re pleased to get behind them on Small Business Saturday. My message for residents is loud and clear - come out on the day and support your local shops!”
Alison Dowsett, Managing Director for St William, said: “St William are very pleased to be able to sponsor Wood Green’s Christmas tree this year. Over the past year we’ve been working with the local community on plans for the future of the Clarendon Gasworks. It’s a great place and community, and we are proud to have a chance to give something back to support them”.
Controlled Parking Zones and other essential parking restrictions including road works will remain in force on Small Business Saturday.

Haringey was the first borough in London to offer discounts to fledgling businesses opening in new and converted workspace. The Council offers business rates discounts of 30 per cent to businesses who move into Haringey’s new and converted workspace. Business rates relief is also offered to hundreds of local business saving them thousands of pounds.
