An impressive 93% of students have secured one of their top three secondary school places in Haringey, surpassing the London average by 3%.

Last Friday, year six pupils across the country discovered their secondary school placement for 2024 on National Offer Day.

Some 75% of students were offered their first pick–a 3% rise from the previous year.

Haringey’s figure was also higher than other neighbouring authorities, including Hackney (73%) and Islington (70%), with, Enfield and Barnet (75%) on par with Haringey.

Overall, 96% of Haringey pupils were offered a school of their preference (1-6), again higher than the London average (94%).

Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families, Cllr Zena Brabazon, said: “This is fantastic news for Haringey students, and I am extremely proud of how far we have come. Having secured a ‘Good’ rating with Ofsted last year and witnessing the first hand the hard work our teachers are putting into provide excellent education, I have no doubt, our students will be in safe hands.

“Attending the right secondary school sets the course for their academic journey and future opportunities. It’s about finding the right fit for individual needs, aspirations, and learning styles.

“The future of the next generation is in our hands, and we will do everything we can to ensure they have the opportunities they need to thrive. We look forward to welcoming our new year seven students in September.”

Last year, Haringey achieved a ‘significant milestone’ with Ofsted awarding the council a ‘Good’ rating overall for its services to children and young people – a first in the borough’s history.
