Plans to purchase up to 154 genuinely affordable homes have been announced as part of Haringey Council’s delivery of a new generation of 3,000 high-quality council homes by 2031.
Last night (6 February 2024), Cabinet gave the green light to acquire an initial 38 homes at the St Ann’s Hospital site in Tottenham.
Councillors also agreed the option to buy 116 additional properties, ranging from 1-bed flats to 4-bed houses, in future phases of the development, subject to further Cabinet approval.
The St Ann’s Hospital site will be a highly sustainable and low carbon neighbourhood. Tenants will benefit from a raft of energy efficiency measures in their new homes, extensive urban greening, solar panels and communal air source heat pumps and almost 2000 cycle spaces and safe pedestrian and cycle routes.
The acquisition forms part of the council’s ambitious programme to deliver 3,000 council rent homes by 2031, with almost 200 already completed and 2,000 in progress.

“A council home offers stability, safety and the chance to put down real roots in the community.”
The new homes are part of a Peabody Group scheme of 995 properties, 60 per cent of which will be affordable.
