Haringey’s Neighbourhood Waste Watch Champions aims to empower residents to make small but impactful improvements within their communities.

Individuals who sign up will be given the responsibility to report environmental issues including dumped rubbish, graffiti and litter. It is hoped they will also encourage other members of the community to keep the local area clean and tidy as well as take part in or host litter picks.

The borough-wide initiative will give individuals the opportunity to play a vital role as the eyes and ears of the council as well as help make Haringey cleaner, fairer and greener.

Residents will have the chance to come together and address matters of mutual concern and address them collaboratively. Understanding and knowing these concerns earlier on will also enable the council to act quicker and more efficiently.

Using the information gathered by the champions, enforcement action will be taken against those who contribute to the damage caused to our environment.

Cllr Seema Chandwani, Cabinet Member for Resident Services & Tackling Inequality, said:

“Across the council, we are committed to fostering strong relationships with our residents and listening to their frustrations.

“This new scheme allows us to do this and address their concerns together as well as collaborate with them to shape a Haringey, we can all take pride in. However, to make a positive and long-term change, we must stand united in our efforts.

“Our vision is for Haringey to be a place where people are eager to live, work, and play. This highlights the importance of discouraging people to use our borough as a dumping ground. We all have a responsibility to ensure Haringey remains a vibrant and inviting community for everyone.”
