Meet your new Cabinet: Cllr Lucia das Neves, Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care & Wellbeing
First elected in 2018, Cllr Lucia das Neves was Chair of Overview and Scrutiny for two and a half years and sat on the joint health scrutiny for North Central London for three years.
The Woodside ward councillor took up her first role in the Cabinet in 2021 as lead for Health, Social Care and Wellbeing and in the new Cabinet will continue to oversee this portfolio, which includes responsibility for public health, social care services and adults safeguarding.
Lucia is particularly proud of the council’s work supporting residents’ mental wellbeing. Earlier this year, Haringey led a successful London-wide Great Mental Health Day and has invested in a range of services and activities to help focus on this vital issue in the borough.
Taking up cycling to get around the ward when becoming a councillor, Lucia is passionate about spending time talking to residents and in the community hearing what they think can improve and change.
A Londoner all her life, Lucia moved to Haringey 14 years ago where she lives with her husband and daughter. Lucia started her career as a junior reporter in south London and has been active in the community as a school governor and, before becoming a councillor, the We Love Myddleton Road project.
Lucia has a background in community co-design and participation, volunteering and governance, and recently worked on a project to help recruit more trustees with diverse skills and backgrounds.
Did you know? Lucia was the first councillor (to her knowledge) to hold a British Sign Language interpreted surgery in her ward and, as an allotment holder, is an avid lover of all things green and growing.
