Meet your new Cabinet: Cllr Mike Hakata, the Deputy Leader & Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Environment & Transport
Cllr Mike Hakata is the Deputy Leader of Haringey Council and Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Environment and Transport, who represents the Hermitage and Gardens ward.
Mike has lived for more than 30 years in and around Tottenham, where he still resides to this day with his three children.
He worked in the minicab business for a decade-plus here in Haringey and two neighbouring boroughs, Hackney and Islington.
This experience has given Mike an incredible education and insight in the reality of congestion and its associated impacts, not just upon the environment but the health and wellbeing of residents and those who depend on our roads.
He believes Haringey’s greatest strength is in its diversity, with our parks and green, open spaces being the best kept secret in the borough.
Mike is passionate about the environment and is spearheading our green agenda as we strive to become a net zero carbon council by 2027 and net zero carbon borough by 2041.
Did you know? Mike follows Clapton CFC. His favourite film is Withnail & I and he’s quite partial to Chinese or Turkish cuisine as well.
