Update: Next phase of flood prevention in Hornsey and Muswell Hill set to begin
The next stage of work to prevent flooding in Hornsey and Muswell Hill will start on Tuesday 11 April.
Working with businesses and local residents, we have made strong efforts to combat the risk of flooding in the area with the work that began on the Muswell Hill Sustainable Drainage System scheme on 27 March.
The next phase of that scheme will see Alexandra Palace Way closed northbound, with only the southbound lane turning left onto Priory Road remaining open.
In consultations with local businesses and residents, it has been agreed that, during the Easter bank holiday weekend, before this phase will launch, the northbound and southbound lanes will be open for access to Alexandra Palace including the garden centre.
The proposed features in Hornsey and Muswell Hill will reduce surface water flood risk to homes and businesses with rain gardens at the junction of Priory Road, Park Road, and Alexandra Palace Way, and permeable paving laid at the southbound parking lay-by on Priory Road.
Modelling indicates that these proposals will substantially reduce surface water run-off during both typical and extreme storm events and this should help to alleviate flooding at this junction. It will also improve ecology and biodiversity in the area.
Diversions will be in place throughout all phases of the works with the project expected to be completed by the summer.
