Updates on cost of living measures
New measures have been set out yesterday to address the rising cost of living. In addition to the energy rebate scheme, which is currently being processed to all eligible households, a package of new measures has been announced by the Government to tackle soaring energy prices, including an energy bill discount of £400 for all UK households this October. Households receiving benefits will be given an additional payment of £650, which will be paid by DWP in two lump sums – the first from July, the second in the autumn.
We have listed below the main points that were announced yesterday:
• Energy Bill support doubled to £400 – credited to account by energy provider
• £650 for those on means tested benefits – paid by DWP in two sums in July and autumn
• £300 pensioner cost of living payment – paid by direct debit as top-up to Winter Fuel Payment
• £150 to those on disability benefit (DLA, PIP etc) – Government to pay directly
• £500m further for Household Support Fund – extended to March 2023 - more guidance to follow.
