To all the residents of Haringey,
In 1981 the International day of Peace was established to strengthen the ideals of peace within and among all nations and peoples. Haringey Multi-Faith Forum honours the values of love, peace, kindness, and mutual respect that bind us together. We will continue to stand united in celebrating our diverse communities and serve as a reminder that International Day of Peace is for all.
To us, Peace means being able to be yourself. We all have different stories, experiences, and identities. But by listening, being open, and sharing those stories, we can truly know each other and recognise and realise our humanity. If anyone among us is hurt, we all hurt. If someone is suffering, we must help. Imagine a world where everyone could live with their own religion and culture, mixing beautifully without fear or anxiety. That is the world we strive for. That is the future we strive for. It is not always the world we are seeing.
We support the Leader of Haringey Council in her messaging from last week. Like her, we are clear: there is no room for racism, xenophobia, or aggression of any kind on our streets, in our workplaces, or in our communities. We must not allow it to be normalised or go unchallenged.
People from all over the world have made Haringey their home, and our communities are richer, stronger, and more vibrant for it. We will always stand together against those who try to divide us.
We will not only use International Day of Peace to share this message, but will continue to work together, and remain dedicated over the coming months and years. As the saying goes, 'If you can’t be a tower, be a bridge.' Let us be bridges of understanding, and unity.
We are here, and we stand with all of you
Let there be peace.
