New Cabinet Member appointment

Cllr Ibrahim Ali has been appointed to the cabinet today (Monday 12 January) replacing Mike Hakata who has stepped down as a Cllr and from his position as a Cabinet Member for personal reasons.

Cllr Ali has been the ward Cllr for Bruce Castle since May 2022 and is the Chair of Standards Committee. He will take up his new position with immediate effect.

Haringey Council would like to thank Mike, who was Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Environment and Transport, for all his hard work since he was appointed to the role in 2021.

Mike is a former Deputy Leader and represented the wards of St Ann’s from May 2018 until May 2022 when he was elected as Cllr for Hermitage and Gardens.

The announcement will not trigger a by-election and residents in Hermitage and Gardens will be represented by Cllr Anna Lawton.

A full list of Cabinet Member portfolios will be published in due course.

“I want to thank Mike for all his hard work as a Cabinet Member in spearheading the council’s efforts to tackle the climate and bio-diversity emergencies and build a fairer and greener borough.

Mike Hakata said:

“It's been a privilege to serve Haringey residents for nearly eight years and to work in this administration to build a fairer, greener borough.

“I'm proud of what we achieved together on climate action, active travel, and community-led environmental projects."
