Census 2021
The national Census day is on Sunday 21 March and households across the whole country will be asked to participate.
The census takes place every ten years, gathering information to get an estimate of all the people and households in England and Wales.
Letters are being sent in the post to all households with a unique access code, which will allow you to complete the Census questionnaire online – you may have already received such a letter. Paper questionnaires will be available on request.
Census information helps to decide how services such as healthcare, transport and housing are planned and funded in each local authority area. This means it’s extremely important to complete the census fully and accurately.
The census includes questions about your sex, age, work, health, education, household size and ethnicity and results will be available within a year.
For more information and advice on how to answer the questions, visit census.gov.uk.
