Council action results in £2000 fine for illegal massage parlour
A successful prosecution by Haringey Council has resulted in a fine of just under £2000 for the operator of an unlicensed massage parlour in West Green.
Council officers and the West Green Safer Neighbourhood Team attended the address on Langham Road in March 2020 after receiving reports of unlawful business being carried out inside the premises.
The premises was advertised as “Exclusive Massage”, despite not having a licence in place to carry out special treatments.
After a delay due to the pandemic, the case was heard at Highbury Magistrates’ Court on 28 October 2021. Magistrates found the operator of the premises, Mr Thomaz Miller, guilty of offering special treatments without a license, issuing him with fines and costs totalling £1988.
The successful enforcement action is an example of Haringey Council’s ongoing efforts to tackle illegal activity and antisocial behaviour in the area around Turnpike Lane station.
The council is working with partners including the police, businesses and community outreach groups to address residents’ concerns. As part of this partnership, the Metropolitan Police is introducing a new Town Centre Team to help residents feel safe in the area around Wood Green High Road and Turnpike Lane.
