Council approves funding contract for Osbourne Grove development works
A design development contract has been awarded to construction consultants, Ingleton Wood LLP, to take forward the development works at Osborne Grove Nursing Home.
The plans include a new residential nursing home for older residents, including specialist provision for people with learning disabilities and or autism as they grow older.
There will also be a dedicated end-of-life provision for people with a history of homelessness, supported housing for older people as well as community facilities to enhance Haringey’s offer to older residents in the borough.
Reflecting the significant investment the council is making in this scheme, Ingleton Wood LLP has been engaged to undertake the detailed design work necessary to support this important project.
Working alongside a range of stakeholders, their engagement comes following a decision in July 2019, to bring forward the construction of a 70-bed nursing home – to maximise the use of the site and meet the demand for nursing care and supported housing in the borough.
Once complete the nursing home will provide:
• Nursing Beds and support services for those with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism
• Bed Provision for those Complex Care Nursing Needs
• Nursing Beds for those with Dementia and/or Challenging Behaviour
• Nursing Beds for those with Physical Frailty
• Bed Based Intermediate Care/Rehabilitation support
• Studios for the provision of nursing care to meet the needs of homeless and formerly homeless single adults with complex care needs
• Sheltered Housing Flats for adults aged 50+
Cllr James, Cabinet Member for Adults and Health, said:
“I am delighted to see the next phase of development works come forward for Osborne Grove Nursing Home and once completed these works will help us to meet the demand for nursing care in the borough.
“We are absolutely committed to working alongside our community and other public sector partners to develop a model of care that is truly fitting and reflective of the needs of our community. This scheme is no exception and continues to reflect the importance ofco-production in shaping service provision in the borough.
“I look forward to when these works are complete and our residents can benefit from the services the nursing home will provide.”
Haringey Council places great importance on delivering high quality services for vulnerable residents in the borough and plans have also been developed to bring together a range of mental health services in a single approach at the Canning Crescent Centre, in Wood Green.
Details at the cabinet meeting this week show how the building will provide a number of self-contained short stay rooms for crisis and respite care, a recovery college, a café and an evening and weekends crisis centre. It is hoped it will be ready for use by April 2022.
Cllr James added:
“I am pleased to see the way our partners are working together with us to bring forward this important project to improve community services for those experiencing mental ill-health.
“By bringing services together we will achieve a more joined-up approach to mental health support in a building that is purpose built and has strong therapeutic properties. This is a really exciting project.”
