Don’t delay – Get your COVID-19 vaccine today!
A vaccination drive has been launched to ensure that everyone in Haringey, aged 18+ can get vaccinated at a time and a place that suits them. The initiative is being led by Haringey Council in partnership with the NHS and Haringey’s federation of GPs – Federated4Health. Community engagement officers are calling to households in many areas of the borough to provide information, answer questions and help with booking vaccinations or directing to nearby walk-in vaccination clinics. These teams will also be out and about in the community.
With all remaining COVID-19 restrictions set to be lifted on 19 July, the race is on to get as many people as possible vaccinated across London, where vaccination rates are lower than in other parts of the UK.
COVID-19 infection rates continue to rise in Haringey and across the UK, driven by the Delta variant. This COVID-19 strain, first identified in India, is up to 60% more transmissible than the Kent variant, which will leave communities, where vaccine uptake is low, very vulnerable when restrictions are eased.
Everyone has the right to be vaccinated against COVID-19 – you don’t need to be registered with a GP and your migration status does not affect this. Information will not be shared with the Home Office or other authorities. This focused initiative aims to ensure that everyone, living or working in the borough, can access vaccination, to help protect against serious illness and death.
Getting double vaccinated offers the best protection against the virus. Anyone under 40 who has had their first dose, can get their second if it has been more than 12 weeks since their first. Anyone aged 40 and above, can get their second dose if it has been 8 weeks since their first.
Dr Will Maimaris, Director of Public Health in Haringey said: “With the likely lifting of restrictions on 19 July, and the expected rise in infection rates in Haringey as a result, it is extremely important now, more than ever, that people over 18 get vaccinated.
“If you’ve had your first dose, remember you need to get your second jab for maximum protection, so please take action now.
“We are all looking forward to getting back to a more normal life, but we all have a duty to protect ourselves, our loved one and our community from COVID-19. Thank you for playing your part to keep Haringey safe.”
