Have your say on car clubs in Haringey
A new online platform has been launched to help residents and businesses have their say on the future of car club services in Haringey and ensure the voices of everyone are heard.
Car clubs offer vehicles to registered members which they can rent for a specific period and collect from a designated parking space.
They reduce pollution, congestion and parking pressure as well as providing access to a car without the hassle and costs of owning one.
The council has created an interactive engagement webpage as an accessible way for people to contribute their views. Visitors can find lots of useful background information and comment on their experiences with car clubs.
Cllr Mike Hakata, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Environment and Transport, said:
Our ambition is to be a fairer, greener borough where more of us are walking, cycling and using public transport and pollution is reduced.
Car ownership in Haringey is already low at 40 per cent but when people do need to use motorised travel, car clubs offer more equitable access and are cleaner and greener by reducing the overall number of vehicles, which are usually hybrid or fully electric.
We want to get this right and would encourage residents and businesses to give us their feedback on car club services.
Car clubs have operated in Haringey since 2008 with currently 74 fixed car club bays across the borough operated by ZipCar and three spaces located on private land and operated by Enterprise.
To ensure that car clubs in Haringey meet the needs of residents and provide best value, the council is planning to enter into a new long-term agreement with one or more operators to deliver these services.
Responses to the engagement exercise will be analysed and key feedback incorporated into the future ask of car club operators.
The deadline to complete the survey is 21 January 2024.
