Post Office to re-open in Wood Green following Haringey Council campaign
Wood Green residents are to benefit from accessible local Post Office services as a new branch is set to open in January.
This follows an extensive campaign by Haringey Council and ward councillors since the former Wood Green Post Office closed in March 2023, leaving locals having to travel to other locations to access services.
Services are now set to be restored at a new location in The Mall, Wood Green, which is due to open on Monday 22 January at 1pm. Opening hours will be: Monday - Saturday: 9am – 5.30pm, providing 51 hours of Post Office service a week.
The new premises, which are currently empty, will undergo a full refurbishment to incorporate a Post Office with cards, stationery, books, toys and gifts, alongside three Post Office counters.
Cllr Peray Ahmet, Leader of Haringey Council, and Cllr Ruth Gordon, Cabinet Member for Council House Building, Placemaking and Local Economy, said:
“It’s great to see that Wood Green Post Office is re-opening. We know how important Post Offices are to our community, especially elderly residents, people who are digitally excluded and those who don’t use debit and credit cards.
“We were dismayed to see the former branch on the High Road close earlier this year, and since then we have been campaigning alongside residents and ward councillors for services to be restored locally.
“I’m relieved that Wood Green residents will no longer have to travel to access these vital services. At a time when post offices are becoming more and more scarce - roughly 206 post offices have closed in the last two years, two a week – this is a real win for the people of Wood Green.”
Mo Islam, Post Office Network Provision Manager, said:
“We are delighted to soon be restoring a Post Office to this area as we know how important a Post Office is to a community. The branch’s opening hours will make it convenient for customers to visit.”
Post Office customers can give feedback on the plans until 3 January. Customers can share their views during the consultation online at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 204004.
