Leader statement - Lordship Lane Recreation ground incident
Cllr Peray Ahmet, Haringey Council Leader, has given her reaction to the tragic news that a 16-year-old has died following a stabbing incident that took place inside Lordship Recreation Ground, N17 on Sunday, 1 August.
He was taken to hospital where he died on Tuesday, 10 August. His family are being supported by specialist officers.
“I want to express my deep condolences to family and friends at what must be a very difficult time.
"The death of a 16-year-old is a loss no parent should have to bear.
“This is a shocking and deeply distressing tragedy, which will be felt across our communities and beyond.
“Incidences of this nature on our streets will not be tolerated and must stop. There can be no excuses for carrying a knife.
“We all have a role to play in tackling crime, so I would implore anyone who can help to contact the police so that the perpetrators can be swiftly brought to justice.”
