Eat Wood Green
A brand new children and families garden and food growing space
We have been working closely with the Ubele Initiative and Black Rootz over the past 3 years to develop the Eat Wood Green project. Architecture firm 'PUP' are creating an innovative and exciting design which responds to the opportunities and challenges of the site, and will deliver a treasured new community space.
The Ubele Initiative and Black Rootz are creating a plan for the various activities that will be taking place on-site once it is open. These will include:
- under 5s drop-in
- work with local schools
- an after-school club for 'budding growers and gardeners'
What is Eat Wood Green?
A new community garden and food growing space is coming to Wood Green. The proposed location is Wood Green Library.
This project is part of a wider network of Shaping Wood Green projects which seek to transform the town centre into one of the most liveable in London, creating positive change centred on the needs of residents and businesses.
Eat Wood Green will develop the library balcony into a thriving hub of learning about:
- food growing
- nature
- biodiversity
- healthy eating
- how to 'grow your own'
Working in partnership
The garden is being delivered by a partnership led by The Ubele Initiative represented by Black Rootz, with Haringey Council.
The partnership has been working closely with residents, young people and community organisations to design and build the garden.
PUP Architects have been appointed to lead the design of the garden, drawing on a wealth of experience with similar urban farming projects in London.
Bloqs will be using their in-house, manufacturing methods to create safe, sustainable infrastructure on the first-floor balcony of the library.
Funding
Funding is being provided by Haringey Council and the Mayor of London's High Streets for All programme.
