Haringey Youth Summit explores safety, security and success

Hundreds of students, school staff, community stakeholders and industry leaders attended the fourth annual Haringey Youth Summit event at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium today (Friday 24 February 2023).

Hosted by local charity Hope in Haringey and centred around the themes of youth safety, emotional and mental security and future success, the summit represented an opportunity for empowerment, enrichment and learning for adults and students alike, as well as a chance to celebrate the creative resilience of young people here in our borough.

Topics discussed today included:

• Preventing Violence Against Women & Girls (VAWG)
• Making safe spaces for vulnerable people
• How sport builds mental resilience
• Conducting safe school charters
• How to collaborate successfully

Haringey Council Cabinet Members Cllr Zena Brabazon (Children, Schools & Families) and Cllr Adam Jogee (Economic Development, Jobs & Community Cohesion) were among those in attendance alongside Spurs legend and THFC ambassador Ledley King and former Chelsea and Leeds United defender Michael Duberry.

The Bridge Renewal Trust, Duke’s Aldridge Academy, the Greig City Academy sailing team, the Haringey Music Service, Haringey Rhinos RFC, Haringey Voice, Harris Academy Tottenham, the Metropolitan Police and Sister System were all also at this year’s Haringey Youth Summit, which featured a photo exhibition of local businesses by young students.

Today’s event built on previous Youth Summits, which have tackled topics such as digital safeguarding, feeling unheard, knife crime and much more.
