Show your support by saying I care
Carers Week (5-11 June) is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.
It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.
Carers Week is being celebrated in Haringey with a number of virtual and in-person events to recognise the contribution and value of carers:
- Carers Virtual drop-in - Monday 5 June, 2-3pm and 6-7:30pm, online
- Movie night - Monday 5 June, from 7:45pm, online via Zoom
- Wellbeing day - Tuesday 6 June, 10am-2:30pm, Cypriot Community Centre, N22 5HJ.
- Afternoon tea - Wednesday 7 June, 2-4pm, location provided once booked
- Breathworks and EFT Tapping - Thursday 8 June, 7-8:30pm, online
- Five useful things session - Friday 9 June, 11am-1:30pm, online
- Live concert - Friday 9 June, from 7pm, online via Zoom
Most importantly carers will have the opportunity to chat to experts and other carers.
Some events require booking and there is a full list of event times, locations and booking conditions on the Carers Week page.
Cllr Lucia das Neves, Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care & Wellbeing, said:
Carers play a significant role supporting and looking after close family and friends, often without thanks or much recognition. I meet many carers as I visit services and events across the borough, and I am struck by the huge contribution they make to our local communities – often advocating for others and rallying local activities. While I recognise their dedication to a job they didn’t necessarily choose, we know in the council we must always ask what more we can do to help them and those they care for. Carers Week is an important moment to consider this and remind ourselves of their huge contribution. We hope this week’s activities will help carers to make useful connections and to also find out what’s available for them locally.”
