The challenge is on to cut carbon
A borough-wide art competition for primary schools has been launched to help the next generation understand climate change and how they can help build a more sustainable future.
The Haringey Carbon Challenge will see children engage in carbon-cutting activities at home and school for a week and showcase their successes on an A4 poster.
Group and class entries are encouraged so that all the great ideas generated can be shared more widely among young people in Haringey.
The winning design will feature as the cover of this year’s Annual Carbon Report and the successful entrants will receive a Camera Bird Box for their school.
Cllr Mike Hakata, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Environment and Transport, said:
As we all work together to build a fairer, greener future, it is vital we continue to highlight the impact of climate change to all generations.
This important competition is a great way to engage with children across the borough and showcase the action they are taking to cut carbon.
Cllr Zena Brabazon, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families, said:
I am always impressed by the commitment and enthusiasm of children and young people to tackle the climate emergency.
We are keen for all of our primary schools to participate in this initiative so the carbon-cutting ideas of the next generation can be shared with a wider audience.
All primary schools are eligible to enter, but applications are restricted to three per Haringey primary school. Teachers should decide on their school’s three entries and then submit them via the following email address: carbonmanagementteam@haringey.gov.uk. The competition closes on Friday 9 February 2024.
