Step by steps

A step by step is used to guide someone through a process that needs to be taken in step order, like:

• register a birth  
• register a death 
• what happens if you do not pay your Council Tax 

There is no limit to the number of steps you can have, but try to limit it to less than 10.

Overview 

When creating a step by step, you create the overview page first. The overview is the parent of the step by step pages. 

When you create the title for the overview, use this format: ‘Register a birth: step by step'. Put the word 'step by step' at the end in all step by step overview titles.

In the overview body, you can:

• add text that appears at the top of the first page above the navigation – do not add too much text here as it pushes the navigation down the page
• use the body text to highlight a key feature
• use it to summarise the step by step like Cumberland Council have

Pages

Once the overview page is created, you can create step by step pages and link them to the overview.
