Joint Haringey/Islington fostering quiz

section of the joint Quiz's promotional flyerWe recently joined forces with Islington Council to host a joint quiz event called 'Better Together', asking questions on the topic of fostering.

The event was so popular that we are hosting another 'Better Together' quiz on Saturday 3 August at Crouch Hill Community Centre, for:

  • people interested in becoming emergency carers, or
  • who want to provide supported lodgings
  • Both Haringey and Islington need these types of carers and are looking to recruit.

It's a family-friendly date for the diary, and children can have fun on the day in the creative corner.

What are 'emergency care' foster carers?

This refers to foster carers who agree to accept a child out-of-hours or to be on the emergency rota to take children at short notice. This would be in the evenings, weekends, bank holidays and public holidays. Foster carers who agree to be on this rota are paid an additional £100 extra per week.

In addition, foster carers will receive a further £100 when an emergency placement is made.

What are 'supported lodgings' foster carers?

All supported lodgings hosts, providing a home for 16 to 21 year olds, receive weekly payments of £229.40, of which £159.34 is rent, usually from Housing Benefit, or a university loan.

Personal allowances for young people will come from Independent Futures or the Benefits Agency and young people will be expected to contribute to food and utility bills.
