How we support families

At the Maya Angelou Family Centre, we support parents to keep their children safe, happy and healthy. This is achieved through building positive, open and trusting relationships with families, which encourage parents to get involved too.

We strongly believe that children are entitled to be heard and respected as individuals. Therefore we actively encourage children to participate as fully as their age and understanding enables them, in decisions which affect them. We ensure that children’s views and individual needs are considered when making recommendations and suggestions which could affect their lives.

We promote the view that there are unique advantages for children being brought up within their birth families, and in most circumstances children’s needs are best met by being cared for within their families.

In Haringey we have beautifully diverse communities of culture, ethnicity and religion. In all our work with children we respect, protect and promote cultural inheritance, religion and racial identity. We believe that the services we offer to children and their families, should enable them to build their own resilience and strength, rather than dependence on others. These are the values we use to guide us in our practice at the Maya Angelou Family Centre.
