Maternity care during pregnancy
Maternity care is the care you get from health professionals during your pregnancy. It's also called 'antenatal care'.
As soon as you think you're pregnant, make an appointment to see a GP or midwife.
You can refer yourself directly to a midwife by contacting your local maternity services clinic.

What to expect from your maternity care
The NHS website has advice on the antenatal care you’ll usually get while you’re pregnant, including:
- scans and tests you’ll be offered
- when and where you’ll have appointments
- planning for your appointments
- questions you might be asked
- guidance on tracking your baby’s movements
