The Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 requires certain organisations, like schools and childcare providers, to take steps to stop people from being drawn into terrorism. This is known as the Prevent duty.
Our Prevent training
We run the Workshop to Raise Awareness of Prevent (WRAP) for any professionals who come into contact with the public.
WRAP training was developed by the Home Office. It aims to help frontline staff spot individuals who might be at risk of radicalisation and offers guidance on how to respond appropriately.
The workshop is free for local statutory agencies and voluntary organisations, and it lasts 1 hour 30 minutes.
Contact the Prevent team to arrange WRAP training.
Teachers and professionals can also learn about referrals, Prevent concerns and identifying vulnerabilities on GOV.UK.
Support for people working in education
If you work in education, there are resources available to help you meet your Prevent duty and protect students from radicalisation.
Haringey’s Prevent education officer
We help schools and education providers by giving them tools to talk openly with students about radicalisation and community cohesion.
Our Prevent education officer:
- gives Prevent training
- runs workshops and leads assemblies for students
- shares teaching resources in a newsletter
- gives advice on referrals, policy and risk assessments
If you have a question or need any support or resources, contact the Prevent team and ask for the Prevent education officer.
Department of Education
The Department of Education has produced:
- guidance on safeguarding learners who are vulnerable to radicalisation
- a Prevent self-assessment tool for education providers
