Digital courses

Once you have the right device and you’re connected to the internet, if you want to boost your digital knowledge there’s help available.

For residents who like to learn in person Haringey Learns offers computing and digital skills courses from beginners up to level 2 qualifications. 

For people who prefer less formal learning, several organisations in Haringey hold digital drop-in sessions where you can get support.

Drop-in sessions

  • Tech, Tea, and Biscuits is a free tech support service at the Broadwater Farm community centre offering one-to-one support with smartphones, tablets, laptops, and the internet, to help you get more digitally confident
  • Digital TLC will help you get the most out of your smart phone, tablet, or laptop, learning with peer mentors at NRC and BWF
  • Oldalone UK offer digital support for older people in Haringey. For more details contact info@oldaloneuk.org.uk 
  • Atypify provides skills training in digital skills for neurodivergent young women to help them access IT, tech and digital pathways

Online courses

There are also lots of free courses available online that can help you get the most out of the internet and your digital devices. 

  • Digital Unite have over 400 how-to technology guides covering a host of digital topics, including basic computer skills and safe internet browsing. 
  • GCF Global has free tutorials on a range of topics from computer basics like how to use digital devices like phones and tablets to digital media literacy. This includes some tutorials in languages other than English. 
  • Learn My Way is a digital learning site with hundreds of free topics to boost your confidence in using digital tools and getting online. 
  • The Lloyds Bank Digital Helpline offers free 1-2-1 training sessions, tailor-made to your needs, from how to charge a device, turn it on and connect to the internet, right through to online banking.
  • Barclays Digital Wings support in both digital literacy and financial management to help you build your digital and money-management skills. 
  • Microsoft digital training offers online courses for anyone who wants to understand basic computing concepts and skills. The courses are available in multiple languages    
  • The Open University have a free digital skills course on a range of topics including digital well-being and staying safe online. It’s designed to take about 8 weeks with around 3 hours' study time each week, but you can take as long as you want to complete it.
  • Age UK have information for every age group on device accessibility, social media, WhatsApp, and everyday online activities. 

Accessibility Guides

 You can usually change the settings on your laptop, tablet or smartphone to suit your individual needs, e.g. make the text larger, increase the brightness / contrast of the screen, and change the way you tap / swipe the screen.
