Purpose of the assessment

The government requires all Health and Wellbeing Boards to produce an assessment of NHS pharmaceutical services in their areas every 3 years.

The Haringey pharmaceutical needs assessment (PNA) report:

  • examines the current pharmacy services available in Haringey
  • evaluates the need for pharmaceutical services in Haringey based on the local population
  • identifies gaps in the current service provision
  • suggests recommendations

Which services are included

In Haringey, pharmaceutical services are provided by community pharmacies and distance selling pharmacies. These services include:

  • dispensing prescription medicines and appliances
  • sale of medicines to the public
  • providing advice on health and wellbeing
  • safe disposal of unwanted medicines

How the assessment is used

PNAs are used to make informed decisions when considering applications for new pharmacies. They are also used by us and other commissioners when planning services that could be delivered by community pharmacies.
