Toilet strategy 2025 to 2030

Haringey Toilet Strategy and Action Plan 2025-30 is designed to support and improve the provision and accessibility of public toilets across the borough.

Haringey Toilet Strategy and Action Plan 2025-30 is designed to support and improve the provision and accessibility of public toilets across the borough. The actions prioritise those parts of the borough regarded as 'loo deserts', primarily in the east of Haringey in and around Tottenham.

A three-month consultation with residents, visitors and businesses was undertaken to identify some of the key issues which prevent people from using public toilets. The consultation highlighted that many residents, particularly older people, feel isolated or unable to leave home due to a lack of available toilets across the borough.  Other issues highlighted include limited access for people who are disabled, cleanliness, anti-social behaviour, and safety concerns in and around some facilities.

Engagement with local community groups informed the development of the strategy. Public Health Haringey have led on its development together with input from campaign groups including Loos for Haringey and Age UK.

The strategy is based around five key priorities which are:

  1. location of the existing facilities and gaps in provision
  2. planning and transport
  3. safety and hygiene
  4. inclusive access
  5. communication and signage

The plan includes 20 actions developed with a dedicated Toilet Strategy Delivery Group to ensure cross-departmental accountability. The strategy aims to ensure that Haringey is a welcoming place and is accessible to both residents and visitors alike.
