London Borough of Culture and young people

Our ambitions for young people

Shared aspirations

London Borough of Culture (LBoC) will give a boost to our shared aspirations, across council services and external stakeholders, to weave arts and culture through our schools, colleges, and youth centres. We aim to create an ecosystem where every child and young person has opportunity to shape and experience creativity locally and to believe that they can be involved in creative activity through their school life and into their careers.

Creating opportunities

LBoC will create opportunity to bring together our existing assets and youth forums; putting young people’s voices front and centre, ensuring wide representation of youth experiences is at the heart of shaping our London Borough of Culture programming.

Our collective strength

We will use the collective strength of our cultural scene to boost access to work and skills in the creative industries for young people, focusing on training, in production, programming, marketing, project management and event delivery, including through a paid training programme for local participants.

Helping children express themselves

We know that COVID has profoundly affected children and young people’s ability to express themselves and are keen to maximise our support with programmes that support oracy, literacy, writing and creativity. In particular we hope to celebrate the vital role that music plays for young people and children by providing support to existing programmes.
