War memorials in Haringey

There are many war memorials located around the borough of Haringey. The memorials take different forms and commemorate those who died as a consequence of war. The list compiled below also includes memorials to civilians, refugees and internees who suffered or died as a result of enemy action or in a war related conflict.

• Alexandra Palace German civilian internee plaque – erected in 2000 by the Anglo-German Family History Society, to remember over 17,000 German and other civilian prisoners of war interned there between 1914 and 1919, in particular those who died
• Civilian War Dead Memorial 1939-1945, Tottenham Cemetery
• Downhills Shelter Memorial, Lordship Recreation Ground – unveiled by the Friends of Lordship Rec in July 2014, the sculpture was made by local sculptor Gary March
• Highgate School Memorial Gates, Highgate
• Holocaust Memorial Garden of Remembrance, Bruce Castle Park
• War Memorial for Holy Trinity Church and Peace Garden, on Stapleton Hall Road, Stroud Green
• Hornsey War Memorial Chapel, Hornsey Central Hospital, Park Road, Crouch End – Grade II listed
• Old Hornseyans' School War Memorial, in Hornsey Town Hall, Crouch End
• St Mary's Church Tower, Hornsey High Street, war memorial boards 
• St Saviour's Church Cross on Alexandra Park Road, Wood Green
• Tottenham Cemetery War Memorial – CWGC Cross, Grade II listed
• Tottenham War Memorial at Tottenham Green – Grade II listed sculpture of winged 'Allegory of Peace' in bronze, by sculptor L.F. Roslyn, restored by the War Memorial Trust and Haringey Council, 2016-2017
• Victoria Cross Paving Stones (World War One) – in 2018 four VC paving stones were unveiled, part of the commemorative centenary events of the 1914-1918 war
• Walter Tull (1888-1918) – a plaque was unveiled in October 2014 to commemorate the first black army officer in this country who died in action in March 1918. The plaque is located at 77 Northumberland Park, Tottenham. 
• West Green War Memorial, West Green Road, South Tottenham – restored in 2018 and commemorated at a service on 11 November 2018 – Grade II listed
• Wood Green War Memorial on Wood Green High Road – Grade II listed

A small number of war memorials are also held in the collections at Bruce Castle Museum (please note most of these are not on display).
