New tree map launched following planting season

A new online map showing trees planted in Haringey over the last year has been launched on the council’s groundbreaking tree web pages.

The interactive map highlights the type and location of each new tree planted in the borough’s green spaces and streets in 2022/23.

Its user-friendly design enables website visitors to zoom in to discover the variety of tree planted in their neighbourhood.  Clicking on the tree symbol reveals if it was one of 125 funded by the community.

The council planted a record 1,500 trees in 2022/23, including a total of 457 in the borough’s streets.

It has set out targets to increase canopy cover to 30 per cent in all wards and plant at least 10,000 trees by 2030 to kick start this process.

Cllr Mike Hakata, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Environment and Transport, said: “Trees play a vital role in the health and wellbeing of our residents and are key to our vision of building a fairer, greener borough.

“I’m really pleased we’re launching our new interactive map as part of our tree web pages, which we want to become a hub for all tree-related information in the borough.

“We are really keen to hear your suggestions on both.  Let’s sow the seed of knowledge and watch our website grow.”

Launched in May, the web pages direct visitors to sections covering tree protection, tree planting and tree emergencies and problems so users can easily find the information they need.

The tree protection pages explain how the council maintains and nurtures its 40,000 trees and highlights the welcome community support that helps trees survive and thrive.

The tree planting section outlines how residents can get also get involved by sponsoring a tree through our partnership with Trees for Streets, along with a link to the tree map.

Content will continue to be added, and users can give feedback on every page, so it can be improved.
