Council announces contract termination with Fusion Lifestyle

Fusion Lifestyle’s management of three leisure centres in Haringey is to end after Haringey Council issued notice of termination to the provider.

Fusion Lifestyle’s management of three leisure centres in Haringey is to end after Haringey Council issued notice of termination to the provider.

The contract between the council and Fusion Lifestyle will come to an end by the beginning of October 2024.

Fusion Lifestyle currently manages three centres in Haringey: Tottenham Green Pools and Fitness, Park Road Pools and Fitness, and Broadwater Farm Community Fitness Centre.

Future arrangements for management of these centres will be decided following the conclusion of an ongoing review of leisure provision in the borough. The review, announced by the council’s cabinet in June, is looking at how the council can best manage its leisure facilities going forward and provide the best service for residents.

Updating residents on the contract termination, Leader of the Council Cllr Peray Ahmet and Cabinet Member for Culture, Communities and Leisure Cllr Emily Arkell said:

“We know how important our leisure facilities are to residents across the borough, and the benefits of access to high quality fitness and wellbeing services.

“For some time now, the current outsourcing arrangement with Fusion Lifestyle was not considered to be providing the best quality service for those residents and groups that use our leisure facilities.

“Over the last few months, we have been seeking a negotiated exit with Fusion, which we believe would have been in the best interests of all parties and would have allowed us to pursue a new way forward for our leisure centres at the earliest opportunity.

“Unfortunately, as both parties were unable to easily progress with this amicable approach, we took the decision to bring certainty and activate the termination clause in our contract. This will see our contractual relationship come to an end after a 12-month notice period.

“We understand that residents may be frustrated by the time that this process is taking, however we are convinced that this is the best way forward towards our long-term ambition to deliver a high-quality leisure and wellbeing service which gives residents access to the full range of support they need to live active and healthy lives.

“We will continue to work with Fusion to ensure continued delivery of services across the three sites that it currently manages, and to address outstanding issues including the ongoing closure of the pools at Tottenham Green.”
