Last night (15 October 2024), Cabinet agreed the ambitious ten-year framework for change developed after substantial engagement with residents, partners and council staff.
It draws on a host of conversations with the community through projects such as Wood Green Voices, Tottenham Voices and Your Bruce Grove.
Young people, faith groups, older people and partners were also heard through a series of in-person workshops and a broader survey of residents, businesses, students and visitors was undertaken.
Feedback made it clear residents want a Haringey where they can have the opportunity to thrive and the quality of life in every part of the borough matches the cleanest, greenest and safest neighbourhoods.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Peray Ahmet, said:
This bold vision will help us deliver our ambitions for the borough that directly meet the priorities of the community.
Residents have told us they want real change and Haringey 2035 provides a clear direction to help everyone work together to achieve our shared goals for the future of the borough.
I firmly believe this vision recognises our strengths and feels authentically Haringey. It sets out a longer-term ambition where the council works together with our community to create a place where everyone can belong and thrive.
Haringey 2035 identifies the six key areas for collaborative action over the next decade:
• Safe and affordable housing
• Thriving places
• Supporting children and young people’s experiences and skills
• Feeling safe and being safe
• Tackling inequalities in health and wellbeing
• Supporting greener choices
Working groups will be established with partners on each of the calls to action to deliver the Borough Vision.
This builds on the Haringey Deal which sets out the council’s commitment to developing a different relationship with residents, alongside the Corporate Delivery Plan that outlines the council’s ambitions over a 4-year period and the vision will inform future strategies from the council.
It also responds directly to the recommendation from the Local Government Association’s Corporate Peer Challenge in May 2023 for a longer-term vision for the decade ahead.
