A total pot of £112,000 will be available to support community-led carbon cutting projects in 2025-26.
From 1 November the Community Carbon Fund re-opens for a fourth year with local groups, schools, businesses, and community groups interested in starting or expanding a project invited to attend one of two workshops over the next two months.
The fund has already supported 26 impactful projects, including retrofitting, energy efficiency, renewable energy generation, circular economy initiatives and climate awareness programmes.
Cllr Mike Hakata, Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Environment and Transport, said:
This important and ambitious fund empowers people to lead the charge against the climate emergency.
We know our residents are full of great ideas to reduce carbon and strengthen resilience and the funding will help bring these to life.
If you want to play a key role playing in achieving the borough’s climate goals and a fairer, greener and sustainable future, then I encourage you to attend one of our workshops to find out more.
The Community Carbon Fund is part of the council’s Climate Change Action Plan and is in its fourth year of offering micro, medium, and large grants.
If you are thinking of applying and have questions, then attend one of the engagement sessions taking place in Wood Green on 24 October and online on 27 November.
In line with the Haringey Deal, the Community Carbon Fund sets out a commitment to tap into the strengths, knowledge, expertise, and passion of Haringey’s people to tackle the big challenges we face, including climate change.
The council’s planning policies for new buildings set high sustainability standards and council teams work hard and are successful at achieving net zero developments. Where developers prove they cannot meet the necessary standards on site they must make a ‘carbon offset’ payment, which helps fund off site projects, such as the Community Carbon Fund.
