Today (1 November 2024), Haringey Council launched the biggest ever round of its flagship sustainability fund with a total pot of £112,000 available for 2025/26.
The Haringey Community Carbon Fund welcomes applications from local community groups, schools, and businesses who want to start or expand a project.
The fund has already supported 26 impactful projects, including retrofitting buildings, energy efficiency measures, renewable energy generation, circular economy initiatives and climate awareness programmes.
Cllr Mike Hakata, Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Environment and Transport said:
I’m delighted we are launching the fourth round of this important and ambitious fund.
It provides a fantastic opportunity to unlock the talents and creativity of our communities so that together we can tackle the climate emergency and help ensure a fairer, greener future for our borough.
Apply now and turn your carbon cutting ideas into impactful projects that make a real difference.
The Haringey Community Carbon Fund is part of the council’s Climate Change Action Plan and is in its fourth year of offering micro, medium, and large grants.
If you are thinking of applying and have questions, then attend the online engagement session on 27 November 2024.
In line with the Haringey Deal, the Haringey Community Carbon Fund sets out a commitment to tap into the strengths, knowledge, expertise, and passion of Haringey’s people to tackle the big challenges we face, including climate change.
The council’s planning policies for new buildings set high sustainability standards and council teams work hard to, and are successful at, achieving net zero developments. Where developers prove they cannot meet the necessary standards on site they must make a ‘carbon offset’ payment, which helps fund off-site projects, such as the Haringey Community Carbon Fund.
Applications for this round of funding can be submitted via an online application form, or email, before midnight on 5 January 2025.
