This has truly been a remarkable year for our talented young people in our borough.
An impressive 98 per cent of our schools are rated good or outstanding, our Children’s Services received a good Ofsted rating, and our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision was awarded the highest Ofsted rating.
The early years of education are crucial for young people as they embark on their educational journey. In 2024, Haringey achieved remarkable success, ranking fifth out of 32 London boroughs and eighth nationally for good level development.
Haringey has shown exceptional dedication in investing time, commitment, and passion to ensure the next generation has the confidence, skills, and opportunities to become successful individuals. Providing the best possible education for our youngsters remains a top priority, and this year's achievements are a testament to our unwavering commitment.
We actively engage with families to ensure they have access to their funding entitlements and offer support through our Family Hubs across the borough. These hubs provide invaluable resources and services for older children and young people.
Earlier this year, Haringey became the first London borough to support new dads with the ground-breaking DadPad app. This app helps new fathers develop the confidence and skills needed to navigate parenthood, addressing the limited support traditionally available to dads.
In addition to these achievements, Haringey surpassed the national and England-wide average for the Progress 8 measure, which tracks student progress from the end of primary to the end of secondary education.
We continue to offer the best alternative provision for young people and the Haringey Learning Partnership is among one of the best in the capital when it comes to providing tailored support for those facing behavioural, emotional, or special educational needs. We aim to create an inclusive educational environment where every student can thrive.
Learning and development extend beyond GCSEs, with Haringey supporting young people post 16 to secure higher education or employment opportunities. With a ranking of 13th out of 152 local authorities for A levels and A level equivalent qualifications, Haringey remains committed to investing in its young people and their futures.
Listening to our young people has always been important to us. As future leaders of our borough, their involvement in decision-making processes is crucial.
Earlier this year, the powerful voices of young people were heard at a major council meeting. Joined by the Cabinet and councillors, a special Full Council provided a valuable platform for children and young people to creatively express their ideas, concerns, and aspirations. This fostered a sense of empowerment and engagement among the next generation of leaders.
As we look forward to the new year, we remain committed to providing the best opportunities for our young people and celebrating their successes.
