Staff and volunteers at the Highgate-based venue Jacksons Lane were looking to raise £20,000 as part of their Big Give Christmas Campaign between 3 December and 10 December.

Thanks for the renowned generosity and kindness of the Haringey community too, they not only reached their target, but surpassed it to reach a grand total of £21,517.

Writing on their social media handles, the creative and cultural hub for north London said:

Thanks to you, this year’s event will be even more magical, spreading warmth and cheer to those who need it most.

2024 marks the 50th Christmas Day lunch at Jacksons Lane.

A statement on their official website reads as follows:

Our Christmas Day programme is our oldest and dearest to our hearts; it harkens back to Jacksons Lane’s earliest days as a church, as well as its community-oriented origins in the 1970s.

For decades, people have sought community within our building during the festive period and we have no intention of stopping now.

The day is supported by a team of over 100 dedicated volunteers. For many of them, helping out here has become as much of a tradition in their families as stockings, carols and cold turkey sandwiches on Boxing Day.

Jacksons Lane do still require presents for their guests though so – if you can – please consider buying a gift from their Christmas Wishlist.

Each one will either go to a vulnerable older person attending the in-person event at Jacksons Lane or be placed in one of the 200 Christmas hampers delivered across north London by a volunteer.

Thank you to the Haringey businesses and residents who have supported the Local Buyers Club’s Winter Toy Appeal once again this year.

Each toy will go to a Haringey child or young person experiencing hardship who might not otherwise get to receive one were it not for the generosity and kindness of our community here in Haringey, so thank you.

Meanwhile, Haringey Giving have extended their Haringey Giving Week (3 December – 10 December) through to the end of the month.

Allowing local people to help children and young people, tackle mental health and loneliness and build skills and enterprise, your support can make a difference and change lives in Haringey.

Every pound given or raised will be matched by Haringey Giving’s funding partners, thereby having twice the impact for people experiencing disadvantage and inequality.

Last year’s campaign raised over £17,000 and helped fund six projects that enable local people to make improvements and take positive action.
