Despite the very bad weather, spirits were high on Haringey’s float as it made its way through central London.
The parade took in some of London’s most famous landmarks including Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, Horse Guards Parade, Downing Street and the Palace of Westminster.
Among those representing our diverse and vibrant borough were the Borough of Basketball, Haringey Vox Choir, the Pan National Steel Orchestra and Streetz Ahead, who all produced great performances to wow the crowds lining the route.
The Mayor of Haringey, Cllr Sue Jameson, led our dazzling delegation through the downpours and the drizzle in robes made especially for the occasion by Quilt Club as part of the Haringey Feast legacy project, supported by the Mayor of London.
Cllr Jameson said:
We had such a great time on the London New Year’s Day Parade. We all got soaked, but were all so happy. Aren’t kids brilliant? The Streetz Ahead kids were amazing – so resilient and work as a team so beautifully
I’m so proud of Haringey. Streetz Ahead, Pan Nation, Haringey Vox and the Borough of Basketball played blinders today in constant rain and delays. They all kept smiling and performed so well. We have a borough of stars. You’re the best!
It was a brilliant day. The weather was atrocious, yet everyone kept smiling and were so well tempered. The music and performances were outstanding.
This was the first time in five years Haringey participated in the London New Year’s Day Parade, which has raised well over £2 million for London charities since its inception in 1987.
Haringey’s float was generously sponsored by Festival Republic, Medchem Pharmacy on Green Lanes and Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.
