A dedicated online platform is now open for residents to share their views and help shape the development of two new strategies that aim to transform these valuable spaces.
While a large proportion of the borough’s kerbsides are used for parking, less than 50 per cent of households in Haringey own a car and more than 70 per cent of journeys are made by walking, cycling or public transport.
This initiative will guide the development of the council’s Kerbside Strategy and Electric Vehicle (EV) Strategy that balance different needs, whether people walk, wheel, cycle or drive.
Cllr Mike Hakata, Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Environment and Transport, said:
We are reimagining our streets to help create a safer, greener and more sustainable borough for everyone.
This isn't just about parking - it's about creating streets that work for our whole community. Tell us how you'd like to use your kerbside, from safer crossings to community gardens, cycle storage to electric vehicle charging.
Your views will help ensure any changes balance the needs of the community fairly and make our streets more accessible, inclusive and welcoming for all.
The council is keen to hear ideas on bringing green spaces closer to people's homes and where greenery, seating, and social spaces could be situated in local neighbourhoods through the Kerbside Strategy.
Meanwhile, the EV Strategy will guide the council’s priorities for infrastructure and ensure it meets the needs of residents and makes EV use practical and accessible whilst improving air quality for everyone.
In line with the Haringey Deal, the engagement exercise sets out to tap into the strengths, knowledge, expertise and passion of local people to tackle the big challenges the borough faces.
Visitors to the online platform can find out details of the project, comment on a range of issues via a questionnaire and place a pin on the map to suggest locations for disabled parking, electric vehicle bays, car clubs, cycle parking, trees, parklets, delivery bays, and much more.
Three pop-up sessions are also being arranged to answer questions and provide the opportunity to share your ideas. Check the online platform for details.
Have your say by 9 March 2025.
