SEND Working Together Charter: families and practitioners as equal partners

Last week, SEND Power Parent Carer Forum and our SEND service co-hosted the second Voices Day event.

This all-day event brought together children, young people, parents, carers, managers, senior leaders and practitioners from across the education, health, and care sectors.

The aim was to build upon the principles and values of co-production by listening to one another, sharing ideas, and working together to shape a system that benefits everyone.

A key focus of this year’s event was the launch of the SEND Working Together Charter.

Developed in collaboration with stakeholders from across the SEND system, the charter aims to officially represent stakeholders as equal partners in shaping services that affect the entire borough, including children, young people, education, health and care.

It brings everyone together as equals to share ideas, make decisions, and work collaboratively towards common goals. This involves setting actionable steps and completing tasks together, ensuring meaningful and impactful outcomes.

This charter builds on strong foundations and embeds our principles and values of co-production and inclusive practice.

Co-production in action

Everything about the charter has been co-produced, from its mission and purpose to the artwork. SEND Power organised a competition for the logo, which received 52 submissions from children and young people across Haringey. The winners were selected by Elevated Youth Council, a panel of young people with special educational needs.

The charter embodies our commitment to achieving common goals and the best outcomes for children and young people in Haringey. It promotes a universal, values-led approach that spans age groups and services.

We will follow these values and principles when working with individuals, groups, and through any training activities.
