Maternity services maintained for Haringey residents

The North Central London Integrated Care Board (ICB) and NHS England have agreed recommendations for the future of maternity and neonatal services in North Central London with impacts for Haringey residents.

In the coming years, maternity and neonatal services will be consolidated onto four hospital sites: Barnet, North Middlesex, UCLH, and Whittington. Maternity and neonatal services at Royal Free Hospital will eventually close.

These changes will be accompanied by an additional £67million of capital investment to improve the buildings that host maternity and neonatal services in North Central London

There are no immediate changes to services for our residents and Haringey Council has been involved in the extensive consultation about these changes.  We will work closely with the NHS and our residents to support a smooth transition.

Cabinet Member for Children, Schools, and Families, Cllr Zena Brabazon, and Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care & Wellbeing, Cllr Lucia das Neves, said:

“We are pleased about the decision which sees maternity services maintained for the long-term at Whittington Hospital.

“We look forward to seeing future investment in these crucial services in Haringey and across North Central London.”
