Wightman Road Mosque supports local good causes during Eid and the holy month of Ramadan

A local mosque has been spreading seasonal goodwill and showcasing the fantastic community spirit in Haringey during Eid-al-Fitr and the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Families at Wightman Road Mosque (also known as the London Islamic Cultural Society or ‘LICS’) recently donated, packed and delivered Iftar boxes to North Middlesex Hospital to allow the patients and staff to break their fast.

Hampers were also provided to the Bounds Green Foodbank at St Michael’s Church in N22, with volunteers at LICS once again donating, packing and delivering the food baskets as an Eid gift to families who use the foodbank.

LICS also sent hampers on Eid Day (Sunday 30 March 2025) to local organisations (EG: the London Ambulance Service, the London Fire Brigade & the Metropolitan Police Service, among others) and people as a thank you gesture for providing essential services to our communities, with President Bibi Khan MBE adding:

LICS extends thanks and appreciation to all those who have donated towards our initiatives. We love and value our community.

Among those volunteering their support and time amid the LICS contingent was Cllr Ahmed Mahbub, the Deputy Mayor of Haringey.

His predecessor in that civic role and the council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Ajda Ovat, said:

It’s heart-warming to see families and volunteers at Wightman Road Mosque rally round and support such local community initiatives during the holy month of Ramadan and Eid-al-Fitr.

Like all the other mosques and Islamic centres across our borough, a lot of goodwill gestures often take place around annual events like Ramadan, Eid and throughout the calendar year.

Through my close collaboration with the Haringey Multi-Faith Forum as well, I know people of all backgrounds and beliefs who selflessly devote their energy and resources to support others and it’s that sterling community spirit that makes Haringey such a special and unique place to live.
